  * See film and take tour of Clonmacnoise. (1 to 1.5 hours)

  * Light refreshment in café.

  * Return to Prince of Wales by bus.

  * Maybe have One drink in Sean’s Bar at back of Castle – oldest pub in Ireland.

Camden Fort Meagher is internationally recognised as being “One of the finest remaining examples of a classical Coastal Artillery Fort in the world”. For almost 400 years the fort played a key role as a strong strategic position for the defence of Ireland, the west coast of England and Wales. 65% of the fort is located underground in a labyrinth of tunnels and chambers.  The fort has been restored over a number of years and offers a wonderful heritage experience.  Check it out at

Also, a speaker from the ALLIANCE OF RETIRED PUBLIC SERVANTS, will bring us up to date re the Alliance and ongoing talks re pensions, U.S.C. and other related matters

Spring Lunch  Invitation 

Tour of  Dublin Castle                       
For over 800 years Dublin Castle has been at the heart of Irish History.      
From the founding of the first Celtic settlement in the 1st century A.D. to every Presidential inauguration since the foundation of the State, the site has stood witness to some of the most pivotal events in the country's history.      

Yes Colleagues, Spring is in the air and that means only one thing to our colleagues in NAPD-R. Yes, it’s the annual Spring Lunch.

For our 2017 Spring Lunch  function, this year, we have chosen a new but intimate and delightful little restaurant known as Mykonos, a family run Greek restaurant with a wide ranging menu of European dishes. It’s in Dame Street, just a few metres up from the Olympia Theatre and opposite the entrance to Dublin Castle......on Wednesday, 22ndMarch 2017 at 1.30 pm.   

Pre-lunch Tour                       
NAPD -R has arranged a special guided tour of Dublin Castle beginning at 11.45 SHARP. Assemble at 11.30, please! 

(We regret, that due to the large number of tourists in the city at this time of the year only 40 persons can be accommodated on this tour....... decided based on the first 40 requests received.   

Visit/Tour of Dublin Castle: Assemble at 11.30.  Meet in the Reception area, just off the main courtyard. Main entrance off Dame Street. There is another entrance off Werburgh Street, if you are familiar with the area.

The tour takes 1hour 15mins approx. A number of stops on the tour will have seating facilities. The tour will finish at 1 pm and you will have plenty of time to amble down the Castle yard towards Dame St and cross the road to the Restaurant.                              

No additional charge for this event !                          

Spring Lunch:  The cost of the lunch is €30.00 per  person.                    Refreshments: compliments of NAPD. 
Spouses/Partners welcome.                                                                                       Limited to 60 persons 

Lunch Addresses: Cathaoirleach, Valerie McCormick, will welcome guests initially and after lunch, update members on developments in NAPD-R.  Director, Clive Byrne or Deputy Director, Tim Geraghty will also address  members & guests.

Should you wish to attend either or both of these events please contact any of the members listed below, prior to the 13thMarch 2017 and we’d appreciate if you would forward a cheque for the appropriate amount (payable to NAPD-R) prior to the lunch date. However, a cheques or cash will be accepted on the day provided it is  placed in an envelope with the amount and your name stated on the outside.     Sorry, we cannot arrange change !

Firstly, we would like to wish you well for 2017 and good health to experience the pleasures of retirement.

We look forward to meeting you in person at the Spring Lunches. This year they are being organised in Dublin, Cork and Galway. Details are also elsewhere on the blog.

In the meantime, my colleague Mary Hanley and I would like to bring you up to date with the workings of the Alliance.

As you will have noticed recently the restoration of pensions has begun but there remains much more to happen and time is of the essence. We are striving to have

1.    Preservation of parity with pay of serving public servants.
2.    Restoration of pay cuts in tandem with serving public servants.
3.    Repeal of FEMPI legislation.
4.    Negotiation rights and Access to Workplace Relations Commission and Labour Court.

We are currently preparing a submission to the Pay Commission and are lobbying our public representatives and we urge you too to meet with your local politicians with the above 4 demands.

In order to support its work and strengthen its profile the Alliance has engaged a  public relations firm to carry out a limited number of briefs. Montague Communications is a firm which specialises in raising the public profile of organisations involved in seeking political change. Hopefully this too will advance our cause.
